In the trading of insults that passes for debate leading up to the General Election could I be forgiven for remembering past elections and thinking there’s nothing new under the sun?

Domestics today have been curtailed by the weather. I needed to put some stuff outside so that I could get more space, but thunder and rain put paid to that idea. It also looks like the lawn mowing tomorrow won’t happen as the degree of squelch is not conducive to electric mowers.

Sir John Rutter, newly announced in the King’s Birthday Honours, is well known for the wealth of Christmas Carols he has composed and arranged. “Mr Christmas” is one of the epithets applied to him. He and I share a birth date, he being five years older then me. I first sang something composed by him more than fifty years ago from one of the Carols for Choirs volumes.
